Back to the good old days • You don’t need a 4x4 to go off-road. In fact, sometimes simpler is better – and a whole lot more fun. That’s what a few friends from Zombie Offroad found out while venturing out in a pair of old-school Volkswagen Beetles.
Ford Raptor rules the Kingdom of Lesotho • Like many other wild ideas, this one started over a few cold ones. It was at the Ford Ranger XL Sport launch in Mpumalanga at the end of 2020, when a few of us cornered Ford’s Communications manager as well as Gideo Basson, their resident adventure guru. The idea was simple: a hardcore off-road experience with the flagship Raptor, a trip that would push the boundaries, forcing us to work with the vehicle and each other to keep the convoy going. Will this make for the ideal off-road trip or a complete disaster? Fast forward to 2022 and the invite landed in my inbox, complete with a warning that things were about to get rough.

Angus Boswell and the Prof enjoy an action-packed trip from the comfort of Kia’s flagship SUV.

Mom & daughter on a mission • When eight-year-old Sabria Basson started Cheetah Cubs Conservation Adventures in 2021, a nature conservation club for children, it was no surprise. She’d seen her mom Leilani Basson organising conservation outreaches for women under the Bush Babes Adventures banner her entire life, and now also wanted to make a difference. Sabria’s idea was to get kids involved and passionate about taking care of our planet. Since most of these trips are attended by moms and their children, their “Mommy & Me Adventures” was born – which brings this particular mom and daughter duo to Cape Town in search of wholesome animal encounters that will be part of future events.
Land of silver mist • Limpopo province has less than 20 passes in total, but among those are some of the finest scenic passes in the country. Trygve Roberts of Mountain Passes South Africa explores one of the...
